Description
Andrea Muñiz(she/they) is a movement artist and educator dedicated to performing and creating from a place of connection and joy. Andrea is interested in the research of improvisational embodiment, politics of pleasure and play, and durational practices. They are currently focused on their project as a Dance Lab resident at the Boston Center for the Arts, teaching at Contact Improvisation Boston, and on freelance performance opportunities.
Andrea received her training from Andanza and was a founding member of El Taller Juvenil de Andanza in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Andrea obtained a BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance from The Boston Conservatory. There, they worked with world-renowned choreographers, collaborated with interdisciplinary peers, and developed their artistic voice. They’ve performed with Danza Orgánica, Abilities Dance Boston, Boston Dance Theater, Jamaica Plain Porchfest, Jessi Stegall, The Robin Aren Company, and The Gold Dust Orphans. They teach at BalletRox’s External Partner’s Program, Midday Movement Series, ADB´s Community Outreach Program, and Contact Improvisation Boston. Andrea is a 2021 and 2023 NEFA New England Dance Fund recipient, a Mass Cultural Council Creative Youth Development fellow, and a mentor at the Young Dancers Workshop at Bates Dance Festival 2022.
